What should my budget be for Social Networking?
Social Networking should be at a minimum half of what you spend online per month for advertising. If you are not advertising on Social Networks you are missing out on a huge demographic/audience who likes what you do.
Example: If you do a minimum Facebook campaign and it takes two hours total to setup and monitor it you should budget around $300 for the cost of the campaign ($100) plus time to manage it properly. This would be a monthly expense. The more you put towards the cost of the campaign the more you will get out of it. If you go minimal expect a minimal result.
What should my entire marketing budget be?
This is a difficult question to answer as every industry, area and competition is different. On average this is what we have found works for our clients. Example: If you make $1000 per month 20% should go into next months budget for marketing and you do some sort of print or paper marketing, and half the 20% should be in online marketing. That isn’t a lot for $100 but you will see some results.
If you have a new product, new website and new business you want to dramatically increase your marketing budget to get the word out! Too many think that because they built a website and have their social networks in place that everyone will find them and automatically be liked and shared because they are there. Don’t get caught in this myth, it never happens. Followers are built by hard work and by those who have the experience to do it.
Think of your marketing budget as an investment of what you want to earn in the future not as an expense that is dispensable or optional. “Well I have an extra $100 this month I think I’ll do some Google ads” NO! You cannot think like this. Marketing is more important than your phone bill, your rent or anything else, if you don’t have the business you can’t pay for those things anyways. The more you put towards marketing, specifically online marketing, the greater results you will see and these results are very measurable but you have to do it in the right areas that work for your industry and area.

SURE! But you get what you put in and the length of time you market the greater success you will have. There is no alternative or shortcut to consistent marketing efforts with ONE exception. If you have a half a million dollars for a national ad campaign then you will have a big impact on your business and the awareness of your brand and could even make your business the hottest thing this month but it could also destroy you just as fast.

One or two months is never enough time to see if something is going to work, it takes 3-6 months to start to get a good feel for what works for you.
